Acai Research
Official Acai Research
Only having had the spotlight on it since
2000, Acai has not yet gained the recognition it deserves in
the scientific community. The amount of really solid Acai
research that has been done is small, and mostly all by just a
couple of noted nutritional experts.
Luckily, one of the world’s foremost
nutritional scientists, Dr. Alexander Schauss of AIMBR Life
Sciences, has written quite a lot about his extensive findings.
Too much to even sum up here, he’s even written a book on the
subject as well.
At present there are at least five (5)
official research papers published about the high Antioxidant
capacity found in the Acai berry, and no less than two dozen
books online with a chapter or more on the benefits of
Acai.
Perhaps the most famous publication
mentioning Acai is Dr. Nicolas Perricone’s “The Perricone
Promise.” (Time Warner books, 2004) In it Dr. Perricone names
Acai “the Number One Superfood” for its unusually nutritious
properties.
There isn’t much hard research on Acai
published in that book, but Dr. Perricone states that he did
his own research on Acai to come up with the findings published
in that book, and they are extremely impressive.
Other than books and research papers, the
other most famous published research on Acai is from a
Professor at the University of Florida in January 2006. Then
assistant-professor Steven Talcott published his lab findings
on Acai’s effects on Cancer cells in a petri dish.
According to studies in his lab, (which means the Acai could
not possibly be in its’ most potent form) the Acai berry pulp
“triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86 percent of
leukemia cells tested.”
This is extremely promising news for cancer
victims everywhere, but as of yet there have not been any
follow-ups, possibly due to the lack of access to fresh
Acai.
