Acai Antioxidants
One of the major benefits of the acai berry
is the large number of antioxidants that the berry
contains. These acai antioxidants are much more powerful than
those found in other fruits and vegetables. Acai antioxidants
can help prevent diseases as well as promote the body's overall
health. Below is a list of acai antioxidants (açaí
antioxidants).

Anthocyanins
The acai berry is said to
contain more than 30 times the amount of
anthocyanins contained in red wine. The acai
berry contains two major types of anthocyanins;
cyanidin-3-glucoside and
caninidin-3-rutinoside. The anthocyanins are
supposed to help reduce risk of heart
disease.
Polyphenolic
flavonoids
The acai berry contains at
least sixteen types of polyphenolic
compounds.

These compounds have shown anti tumor
properties and can be used in helping treat and prevent cancers
of the breast, colon, skin, lung and liver. They also contain
anti-inflammatory, antiallergenic, immunostimulatory and
cardioprotective properties.
Beta carotene
Beta carotene is a free radical scavenger
that can help lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease as well
as lowering risks of various types of cancer.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. The
anti-inflammatory properties of Vitamin C can help with asthma
and arthritis as well as preventing atherosclerosis, stroke,
and cancer. It also helps lower the severity of muscular
degeneration in diabetics.
Vitamin E
One of the acai antioxidants is vitamin E
which is linked to reducing the risk of heat attacks as well as
lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. It may also reduce the
risk of muscular degeneration of the eyes which can cause
vision loss.
Magnesium
The last of the main
acai antioxidants is magnesium which improves the
cardiovascular system's antioxidant threshold and increases the
body's resistance to free radicals.
